Are little things overwhelming you? Do you drive somewhere in the car and forget where you are going? Does it just seem so hard?

When you are going through an emotional time like a divorce, you may notice these symptoms. This is a major life change transition you are going through. Your life is drastically changing. There are a lot of strong emotions happening. It can be very overwhelming and scary.

When you get to this place you may not be taking very good care of yourself. Right now, more than ever, you need to nurture and care for yourself. There is so much going on on the outside, you need to take care of the inside. This is a perfect time to consider learning to meditate. It is also a perfect time to journal and let out the things that need to be said or felt. I highly recommend getting a massage. You are holding all that stress and emotion in your body. Watch what you put in your body and when.

My clients come to me sometimes very overwhelmed with huge amounts of stress. They seem to also have huge “to do lists”. Having a list that is so big can actually defeat you in the end. You continue to add to it while little gets done. This can really be disempowering. My advice, never have a list with more than 3 things on it and no more than 3 steps to complete each item. This works much better. That way you get things done a little each day and it ultimately gets done. Less overwhelm and more productivity. Set up systems to handle things that are easy and that work.

There is a lot of change happening and a lot to do. Did you ever see the movie “What about Bob”? Richard Dryfuss as the psychiatrist writes a book about taking baby steps. The client Bill Murrary takes it literally and actually does more than he thinks he can. One, it is a hysterical movie and two, baby steps is brilliant. With all this change happening in your life, take baby steps. Take the pressure off. Prioritize your list and do it bit by bit.

This can be a very painful and overwhelming time. Slow down, breathe, take care of yourself. Get the support you need to help you through this. Believe it or not, you will come out the other end much stronger and with your life intact. It just takes time to heal and to rebuild.
