“How nervous do you get meeting people you admire? I worry about what to wear…I know it’s silly. You  just can’t wear pj bottoms out when you are over 20 Lol!” This was from an instant message conversation I had with one of my dear friends who is a successful coach. It made me smile  because I get nervous every single time!

Here is the rest of our private conversation:

Michelle: “I still get a bit nervous. I mean, I am human. I wear something that I feel pretty in, my special perfume and make sure my eye make up is good because my eyes are my favorite feature. Don’t wear anything tight or polyester, you will sweat and swell if you get nervous. Make sure the clothes are comfortable and you feel strong in them. Who are you meeting?”

My Friend: “A few Facebook friends, who are coaches, travel through my city, and sometimes ask if I will meet them for lunch. I get excited and nervous, lol! Always about what I will wear…never about meeting them or what we will talk about.”

anxiety

I know I get nervous every time. I think it is because we admire these people but don’t know them. Last week I had a call scheduled with Simon Jordan of http://www.oneplanetoneplace.com. It was a skype call. I love his site, his show and how he shows up in the world. So I was very excited and nervous.

Normally my calls are on the phone, I just in the past 6 months started using skype since my team mates are in different parts of the world. So I did not know if it was a video call or a call. (I have now learned on these types of calls the camera is off!) By the time the call was to come in I had changed my top 5 times. I felt pretty silly.

Naturally, we had a great call and connected on similar issues and I made a new friend. So the question was: How nervous do you get? I don’t get the overwhelming anxiety I use to get. I do still get jittery and I think that is human. It is something new. I never let nerves stop me from trying something new or meeting someone I admire. We are all in this together and we all get nervous at times.

I loved that conversation I had with my fellow coach yesterday. It just shows that no matter who we are, we all get nervous and a little silly about it. As long as it does not stop you from moving forward, just smile when it happens and know it just makes you human.
