So many of us put everyone and everything before ourselves, especially if we are women. Our schedules are packed full and seem to grow fuller by the day. When we do get time off, we normally don’t use it to take care of ourselves.

We end up burned out, sick and frustrated. Things get harder the more stressed and overwhelmed we get. Then it becomes even harder to turn things off, cancel appointments and just take care of you.

The thing is, we need to be selfish. We need to do self care on a regular basis. In fact, I have my coaching clients put self care on their calendars with the instructions that they may not cancel that time or move it. That appointment is as important, if not more than your other appointments.

Sure a day at the spa is a great day or a weekend retreat, but it is the simple weekly things that really help keep us balanced. Things like a quiet soak in the tub, a walk outside, journaling, a mani and pedi. Hot tea and a good book, going to a movie. What ever it is that helps you shut out the daily stress and just focus on you.

As the new year starts, I suggest adding some “Me” time into your schedule and sticking to it. Take that class you wanted to take, join a support group or get some coaching. All of these things will help you move forward towards your goals and the focus is on you.
