When we reflect on what our goals and dreams were and face the reality of where we are actually now, in this moment, it is easy to wonder how you got there. What did you miss or not do right? How did it turn out so wrong? How are you going to fix this and get out of what feels like a giant hole with no ladder.

I was speaking to a friend yesterday. He shared that he had a dark night the night before. Meaning, his mood was low and he felt stuck. He told me it was self inflicted. I asked what happened. His reply was “Just not doing enough to change things.” No matter what he tried, things were not changing for him. It seemed that he could not catch a break.

His finances were dismal, his living situation temporary and his love connection challenged at times. His ideas were brilliant and he would jump right in and start working on them and his mood would rise and then he would get bogged down in the details of the pieces of the project and get discouraged and go try something new. The pattern would repeat and repeat.

How do you know what will really work to get you to where you want to be? Do you have a plan or an idea? What proof do you have that it will be your solution?

I was having tea with a fellow entrepreneur who has sporadic success. We were scheduling another time to brain storm together when he looked at my calendar. He exclaimed that it looked like a “regular business” calendar with times blocked out. He asked me what all that was. I explained that even though I work from home and in jammies at times, my time is very scheduled. Certain tasks get done on certain days and at certain times. I use timers to keep me on track.

He replied that he wakes up and works on whatever he feels like working on that day and sometimes it is not what it is suppose to be for a project. Now I understood why his success was only sporadic.

Whether you are an entrepreneur like me or you have a regular job, you still need a plan, a schedule and accountability to meet your goals and achieve them. You can not expect to get what you desire if you don’t plan it out with actual steps, time table and do the work. It just does not happen that way.

He asked me how I grew my Gluten Sugar Dairy Free LifeStyle website and online community so big and so fast in a short amount of time. I showed him the outline of my plan, the time table and the hours worked. To do what I needed to to I worked 7 days a week, scheduled breaks to take care of my self but mostly followed my plan. I built that website and online community of over 40,000 in under two years, wrote a best seller and 6 cookbooks. In fact last weekend, I just finished my 7th cookbook. All because of a plan, accountability and follow through.

Stop wondering how you got here and make a plan to get to where you want to be.

  • Make a plan and break it into quarters
  • Break the quarters into weeks
  • Break the weeks into days and hours
  • Set timers and reminders to get things done
  • Use an organized todo system that syncs with your calendar
  • Sync your calendar on the computer with the one on the smart phone
  • Use alarms on the smart phone also
  • Use the alarms and notices on your calendar
  • Add extra time for every task, things take longer than you think
  • Set up a reward system for completed projects, tasks and goals
  • Schedule in self care time

Stop making excuses this year and just do it. Get support if you need it. I have great coaching programs that can help you make a plan and follow it.

I am hoping that  you are not wondering how you got there but that you are over joyed that you actually did get there!
